6 TIPS FOR THE PERFECT GREEK GETAWAY!

Greece is one of my absolute favorite places in the world. I’ve been 3 times so far, and every time I leave, I’m left wanting more. More time to explore the 227 inhabited out of 6,000 islands, more time to eat the most incredible seafood, more time to 4-wheel entire islands end to end in search of pristine beaches, more time to connect with incredible people and spend more time in some of the most insane water I’ve ever seen! Need I say more? I think you get the point…I LOVE GREECE! Here are a few tips and tricks for the perfect Greek getaway!

Tips for my absolute favorite country! Greece!

International Drivers License

They’ve implemented a new law in Greece that requires you to have an international driver’s license to rent ATVs, cars or motorbikes. So, make sure to go to your nearest AAA office before your trip to get one. It only takes a few minutes and it’s around $35 for a license that will last a year.

It’s super easy! Just take your drivers license into AAA and they’ll take your picture for you there. Some rental places will still not ask for one, but 4 out of 5 places we rented from on our last trip, required it. Also, you don’t have to be an AAA member to go in and get one!

ATV Rentals!

I suggest renting a higher-powered ATV, especially if two people will be sharing one. The higher the CCs, the higher the power, so if you have a need for speed, go for a model with 200+ CCs.

Best Month To Go To Greece

The Greek island’s high season is from late June through early September, with August being the busiest and most expensive month. My favorite time to go is mid to late September, because crowds and prices are much lower but the weather is still great!

Boat Cruises around the Islands!

Make sure to book a private or semi-private boat cruise on any/all islands that you’d like to cruise around. DO NOT take the ones that pack in 30 plus people. The semi-private ones cap at 10-12 people on board, including the captains. Also, everyone is awesome, you’ll end up having a boat full of new friends by the end of the cruise. You’ll get to see so much more this way, and it’s a MUCH better experience.

Ferry Booking Made Easy

I always use ISFerries to book our Island hopping ferries. There are multiple ferries to choose from, but the Super Jet High-Speed Ferries, although more expensive, will get you there in half the time. So I would highly recommend choosing those.

Water Bottle Wine!

You have to try the Greek wine that they sell in water bottles. It’s the locally made wine, that you can get at any grocery or convenience store. If you don’t see it right away, just ask someone that works at the store for their best local wine in the repurposed water bottles. Trust me, it’s so good! Normally it’s lower on the shelves towards the bottom. The best water bottle wine I’ve had in Greece was in Santorini and the worst in Zakynthos. I wasn’t a big fan of Zakynthos’s local wines (but that’s ok, because their beaches more than make up for sub-par wine). On every other island though, they are amazing and super cheap!

To Sum it Up!

These are just a few helpful tips to get you started on your Greek adventure and make it run smoothly! No matter how many times I go to Greece, I will always be left wanting more! More of the pristine beaches, incredible food, crystal clear stunning water, amazing wine, I could go on forever. Island hopping in Greece is always a good idea! With so many islands to choose from and explore, you can go every year and still be left wanting more. Use these tips as a starting point for your first Greek adventure. I promise it won’t be your last! For more Greek Island ideas check out my guides to Mykonos, Milos, Paros, Ios, Santorini, and Zakynthos!
