OFF THE BEATEN PATH IN IOS ISLAND

To be honest, Ios was not on my wish list of islands to explore. Nevertheless, my friends wanted to see it, so we did! With that being said, I’ll share some off the beaten path things I loved about Ios!

FYI: Ios is geared towards high school/college-aged extreme party people that are completely wasted 24/7 and are pretty hard to avoid if you’re in the main part of town or on the main beach.

A cute little secluded beach we found while off-roading in Ios!

Best Restaurant in Ios

We had an incredible seafood dinner in Ios. Undoubtedly, it was one of the best dinners of our entire trip! At Drakos Taverna, a seafood restaurant right on the main beach called Mylopotas. The grilled calamari, feta grilled calamari, octopus, mussels, and fish were incredible! Also, the house white wine was AMAZING!!! This restaurant is a must if you end up in Ios.

Highlights of Ios

Ios is actually a very large island, but only a tiny bit of it is developed, which means there’s tons of land to off-road on ATVs. So, if you’re someone that has a need for speed and loves to off-road on rocky up and downhill terrain, you’ll love it! Clearly, I loved this part of Ios and we took full advantage of it!

While doing so, I got stuck numerous times on the rocky dirt roads and had to do a lot of maneuvering to get myself out of it. Therefore, this just made me feel accomplished for my ingenuity in times of need haha! The best place to rent ATVs in Ios is called Ios Moto Center.

This picture was taken right after I maneuvered myself out of a deep hole my tires made in the sand. I loved getting to drive super fast up and down these untouched little roads.

Make Sure to Get Gas!

Since the island is so big and only the tiny town part is developed, this means there are NO gas stations once you leave the town! So, if you are venturing to the other end of the island, like we did, in search of other beaches and cliff jumping spots, FILL YOUR TANK WITH GAS before you leave town.

We were on empty at a beach at the other end of the island, over an hour from town. The closest gas station that popped up on the map was in Santorini. Haha! That’s on a completely different island! So, learn from my mistakes and don’t expect there will be a gas station, because, there won’t!

In Short!

No matter how many times I go to Greece, I will always be left wanting more! More of the pristine beaches, more incredible food, more crystal clear stunning water, more amazing wine, need I say more? I could go on forever. Island hopping in Greece is always a good idea! With so many islands to choose from and explore, you can go every year and still be left wanting more. Use this itinerary as well as my guides for Mykonos, Santorini, Paros, Milos, and Zakynthos as a starting point for your first Greek adventure. I promise it won’t be your last!

If you have any further questions regarding Ios or if there’s anything I missed, please feel free to write them in the comments below, and as always, have an amazing time when you go!
